Stella McCartney Sunglasses

Eco-conscious fashion designer Stella McCartney will launch her first green eyewear collection this spring. The range of sunglasses and spectacles will be made entirely of natural and renewable materials.

The collection will feature three acetate designs and two metal versions. I'm particularly interested in the bio-injected plastic McCartney's using. We don't think of plastic as being particularly green, but this one is made from 54% castor-oil seeds. These seeds are very environmentally sensitive as they're grown without pesticides and with only a little water. The collection also features a new innovative acetate plastic, which combines cellulose with natural plasticizers drawn from citric acid.

McCartney told fashion bible Women's Wear Daily that her greatest challenge was the vast amount of time needed to research and test the products. She added that they needed to perform, while still being environmentally sensitive and stylish. Finding that right balance might have been time consuming, but now that the eyewear's about to arrive on shelves I'm sure green fashionistas will appreciate McCartney's efforts.

If you like the sound of these sunglasses I'd start saving for them now. While no prices have been announced, McCartney's apparel and accessories are notoriously expensive. I can't see her changing her pricing policy with this brand new line!
