For $29.99, I’m impressed by the technology employed here. While many umbrellas have a single, straight pole, this one can tilt with the push of a button. This allows you to move the umbrella to cast just the right amount of shade at any time of day.

The steel pole does have a pointed end to help you erect it into the sand, but if the sand is soft it’s not going to hold firm. I suggest purchasing an additional sand anchor for real peace of mind. Of course though, that makes this Rio umbrella’s affordable price appear like a bit less of a bargain.

Beach umbrellas are always a bit ungainly, but Rio does its best to help us get to the beach and home again with a minimum of fuss. The center pole separates into two user-friendly pieces, and it also comes with a carry bag.

This Rio umbrella isn’t the most advanced sun shade on the beach, but it does represent good value for money, not to mention plenty of style!
