TOMS has extended its famous "one for one" business model with the launch of its new collection of sunglasses.

Just as it does with its footwear, TOMS will donate a pair of glasses to a person in need for each one sold. We've seen this kind of practice before from other altruistic eyewear labels including Warby Parker, so what makes TOMS special?

Well for starters, TOMS was the first company to launch this business model so we have to give it props for being a pioneer. And TOMS is also going further than simply donating its products. In addition to the complimentary glasses, TOMS is working with the Seva Foundation to offer medical treatment and sight-saving surgery to people in need.

TOMS reports that "blindness and visual impairment is the seventh-largest health disability in the world." It's starting its work in Nepal, Tibet, and Cambodia, but plans to roll the program into other countries that need the help.

TOMS new sunglasses are available in three classic styles: wayfarers, aviators, and oversized round frames. With prices ranging from $135 and $145 they're a bit more expensive than the Warby Parker shades, and not as green, but perhaps our dollars are helping to fund those more extensive optical care programs. You'll find TOMS new sunglasses at the TOMS website and Nordstrom stores, including the department store's online boutique.

Ray-Ban have been producing the Wayfarer style since 1952 and they saw some popularity in the 1950's and 1960's, but their popularity peaked in the 80's, and have recently started making a come back. Unfortunately not everyone can afford the designer originals so here is a cheap alternative.

The best thing about this pair is the range of colors and patterns these shades come in, with both dark or clear lens options. For the price, you could order a few pairs to wear with different outfits to create a really coordinated or perfectly mis-matched look. They really allow you to customize your look and have something that not everyone on the street is going to be sporting despite the popularity of the style.

Keep in mind that at this cheap price you are getting what you pay for, plastic replica/knock-off sunglasses with a printed pattern that are not the "designer original" you may be after. That said, Amazon reviewers did judge that the plastic was heavy and durable.
