The term "pants" seems like a bit of a misnomer when we're dealing with such a small scrap of fabric. They're barely more than briefs! We certainly don't enjoy the modesty that swim pants generally provide, so I hope you feel comfortable about your body!

If you do want to flaunt it though, these Goddess Eva Skirted Pants are a pretty cute way to do it. The tight box pleats are a darling way to dress up the dark blue briefs. Those pleats offer a little extra coverage in the rear, but not enough to hide a few extra winter pounds!

Anyone who does have the figure for it will enjoy the quality of these briefs. Seafolly is one of Australia's leading swimwear brands, and anyone working in that country knows a thing of two about the beach. The dash of elastane in the fabric makes it flexible and comfortable, while the meryl nylon base is made to last.

It will require hand washing to keep its shape and colors true, but it's worth the effort to protect your $81 investment. That's quite expensive for a pair of bikini bottoms, but their timeless style of makes them worth the splurge.

Robin Piccone Penelope Bikini | Modern Black Banded Halter-Neck Swim Top

Robin Piccone challenges the notion that black bikinis are basic and boring with this Penelope swim top.

There's an awful lot going on here. The triangle shaped cups are overlaid with crocheted fabric, which extends down to create a narrow band underneath. I love the subtle texture the crocheted finish creates, and the way our skin peeks out from beneath the fabric band. Abalone shell buttons also pop against the dark fabric. In choosing to place the buttons along one side of the bikini Robin Piccone's helped the Penelope feel youthful and fresh.

What you see is what you get here. There are no hidden extras or details that exceed our expectations. Robin Piccone's selling style above all else, but she's selling it well.

I love the dark gothic feel of the Penelope in black, but the blush alternative hasn't impressed me. The pale pink is frankly insipid, which isn't what we want for $94. That price is standard for high end designer swimwear, but it still stings when you need to buy the briefs too!

I can't imagine middle-aged sun lovers will enjoy Robin Piccone's modern details, but they may make younger girls reconsider wearing black on the beach.

Freya Pier Bikini | Polka Dotted Black Halter-Neck Swim Top

Freya makes the most of curves with this cute Pier Bikini Top.

All too often plus sized labels look to dress their target audience in tents, so it's refreshing to see Freya offering something much sexier.

The Pier isn't skimpy but it sure is sizzling with its playful polka dots and feminine ruffles. The halter-neck style is flattering for any figure, but I think it works particularly well for curvy girls. Their natural assets are given a lift, while underwire underneath provides plenty of support. Underwire is never truly comfortable, but many women say this particular bikini feels better than most.

The Pier has a broad selection of sizes on the larger end of the spectrum, with girls from a C to a GG cup catered for. However it's worth noting that Freya uses United Kingdom sizes, rather than United States conventions. Conversion charts are available online, but generally a cup size larger than your average should suit.

The Pier is also available in a cute bubblegum pink shade, but I prefer the basic black version pictured. It's a more timeless option, and one which works better on women of all ages. Or perhaps at an affordable $68 you could just indulge in them both!

Vix puts fashion first with this luxurious looking Cambra bikini top.

Snakeskin embossed leather tabs liven up not just the straps, but the entire bikini. Without them this black swim top would look like so many others. But they really add personality to the design while making it feel that much more luxurious. However we've always been told to keep our leather goods away from water, so their addition is a somewhat curious choice. I can't imagine how those accents would look after a few summers of serious swimming. Perhaps this is a bikini better suited to sun bathers than water babies.

Those girls will appreciate all the little extras we find in Vix swimwear. The supportive lift of the halter-neck style combines with the removable padding in the cups to enhance the figure of any beachgoer. The top's style is sexy but not too revealing, and you can mix and match it with the choice of briefs to make this swimsuit as racy or as reserved as you like. Choose the sexy Brazilian style or the full-coverage bottoms if you prefer a little more mystery.

Unfortunately we'll have to pay more for those briefs though. At $100 for the top alone, the Cambra is an expensive proposition. Thank goodness its style is so timeless!

Freya Flamingo Bandeau Bikini | Modern Floral & Polka Dot Curvy Swim Top

Freya makes floral prints funky with this Flamingo bikini top.

Its name is a bit confusing, as there's not a flamingo to be seen. Not even a lone pink feather graces this swim top. Instead we get a vibrant posy of poppies and sunflowers decorating the bust. The bold colored print clashes delightfully with the black and white spotted trim. It's a risky choice, and one that probably won't please traditionalists, but I think the contrasting patterns look really fresh.

The Flamingo does a great job of flattering curves. The bust is lightly padded with underwire underneath for extra support and lift. The halter-neck style always makes bodies look their best, but no one minds an extra boost! There's also some light boning in the side seams, which while not comfortable helps to create a smooth, streamlined silhouette.

It's interesting to see the tie coming from between the cups, rather than the sides. I really like the modern edge it gives the design, but I'm not sure how it'll work in the water. The styling doesn't seem as secure as the traditional configuration. Perhaps this is a bikini best suited for paddling and sunbathing, rather than taking on big waves. And if you are sunbathing, remember to remove the tie for a line-free tan.

This is a style that would look great on any body type, so it's a bit disappointing to see the smallest cup size is a D. Freya's always aimed to provide pretty lingerie and swimwear for the oft neglected curviest women, but it leaves the rest of us out in the cold. Perhaps a sister line with the same styles for petite girls is in order!

All too often celebrity style comes at a high price. But with the Becca Color Code swimsuit we can emulate Kim Kardashian's bikini body without putting ourselves in a financial hole.

You might remember seeing Kim K wearing this bikini on the cover of Shape magazine. She showed us that even a simple bikini like this can look amazing if you've got the right body. It's that simplicity that is both the Color Code's biggest strength, and its greatest weakness.

Let's face it; we don't all have Kim Kardashian's body. I worry that if we're simply Jane Average this basic bikini will blend into the background. It looks so good on Kim because she's got curves in all the right places. The removable cups in the bust help give us a boost, but unless we're genetically blessed we won't attract the same stares on the beach.

The basic styling isn't entirely a bad thing though. By keeping things classic, Becca's ensured its bikini won't date. But then again, is longevity really what we're looking for in such a cheap bikini?

The Color Code is a real bargain at $36. Just don't blame us if you don't turn as many heads as Ms Kardashian when you step out in it!

A bold floral print and striking buckle help separate this Nandini Bandeau Top from the pack.

Trina Turk has done a lovely job of reinventing the classic bikini style here. Floral prints are ordinarily much softer than this one, but I think its strength works well. The vibrant colors and intricate details resemble the prints we'd see on an Indian sari. That Eastern influence helps make this pattern look fresher than the average floral.

The bold print is complemented by a striking golden buckle. This too is intricate, and much more appealing than those that usually clip a bandeau together.

Strapless bandeaus like this look so sexy, and they're also perfect for achieving an even tan. However they don't offer a lot of security in the ocean. All it takes is one well placed wave to generate a wardrobe malfunction! Happily Trina Turk has thought of this and added a detachable halter strap for water babies.

The lack of cups in the bust is a glaring omission though, particularly for a bikini top targeted at petite girls. The Nandini is available for sizes 4 to 12, the kind of women who traditionally want to boost their curves. Sadly Trina Turk's styling doesn't offer any help.

While I'm griping it's important to mention the price. At $98 it doesn't initially sound extravagant, but remember that only buys you half a swimsuit.

Ujena Underwire Brazilian Bikini | Yellow Figure Enhancing Two-Piece Swimsuit

Ujena makes the most of our curves with this figure-flattering Underwire Brazilian Bikini.

This swimsuit is made just like the very best lingerie, with soft padding in the cups and underwire underneath to give curves a lift. Underwire is never the most comfortable addition, but it's worth a little pain for an amazingly enhanced figure I think!

This Brazilian Bikini's style is simple but classic. The top's halter style ties at the neck and back, and the basic briefs have a bit more coverage than the average pair of Brazilian bottoms. If you've got a real Latin American booty you may want to order a size above your usual though, as the briefs tend to run a little small. Thankfully Ujena allows you to mix and match the tops and bottoms, so you can find the perfect fit for your shape.

The range of matte colors is ideal for summer. There's basic black for the traditionalists, but I prefer the more cheerful yellow, red, and orange hues. They're playful but because there's no print they shouldn't date.

That's a good thing because at $118.50 for the set, you'll want to get your money's worth. That's not exactly expensive by designer standards, but it's also not very cheap either. But then again, nothing of quality ever is!

Ella Moss proves a black bikini doesn't have to be basic with this gorgeous Sahara swim top.

I've chosen to show you this particular image of the Sahara, because it's one of those swimsuits which really should be admired up close. It's not that it doesn't look lovely from a distance, but you lose all that intricate crochet work. This sixties inspired finish is perfect for the current retro trend, however as it's quite subtle it shouldn't date once the fashion has passed. Wooden beads up the hippie chic factor, providing a nice counterpoint to the standard triangle cut.

The Sahara should feel heavenly to wear thanks to its blend of micro nylon and spandex. The micro nylon is ultra soft, while the spandex gives the fabric the flexibility you need in the water. The material is quick to dry once you leave the waves too, so you needn't sit about in wet swimwear.

The sizes are skewed towards the small end of the spectrum, which is likely to disappoint larger girls. The style would certainly flatter any shape, so it's disappointing the range is so restrictive. However at least the removable cups show Ella Moss is considering the needs of its target audience. I'm sure they'll enjoy the Sahara's relatively affordable $63 price tag.

Reef Nailed It Bandeau Bikini | Stud Decorated Ruffled Yellow Swim Top

Reef has created a great blend of sugar and spice with this Nailed It bandeau bikini.

The playful ruffle along the top gives this swimsuit a flirty, feminine feel. But that's tempered a bit with the smattering of nailhead studs. The metal is delicate so it doesn't look quite as dangerous as studs often do, but its presence ensures we know this swimsuit isn't strictly a good girl.

Or at least it does in the right color. Honestly I think the pink shade is too saccharine for most women to take seriously. The black one is a solid timeless option, but it's also a bit predictable. Personally I prefer the summery feel of the bright ocean blue bandeau, or this cheerful yellow one.

Whichever one you pick you'll appreciate its features. The strap is removable, so we can attach it for security in the surf or detach it for tanning without the lines. The padding in the bust is also removable for that little bit more flexibility.

The range of sizes is very limited though. Unless you're a medium or a large you're out of luck. If you do fall into this average range though you'll enjoy the Nailed It's very affordable $32.95 price tag.
