For a beach bag with designer style, look to this umbrella tote from Coach.

With its whimsical umbrella illustration by acclaimed French artist Pierre Le-Tan, this pretty tote looks perfect for summer. Its design starts promisingly as well, with Coach's traditional luxury fabrics passed over for a more practical water and stain resistant canvas.

But Coach just can't help itself. It dresses up this tote with gold patent leather trim, which while lovely to look at isn't so practical at the beach. The canvas might not mind a few splashes, but the straps certainly will.

I'm also disappointed by the dimensions, which seem a bit narrow for easily accommodating a fluffy beach towel along with all the other beach essentials. Of course you could always carry your towel, but that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? At least the interior is well designed, with a pair of open pouches and a zippered pocket helping to keep those beach bits and pieces in order.

At $268 this is a pretty expensive beach bag, but that price isn't altogether unexpected for a designer tote. If you love labels, this sweet collaboration by Coach and Pierre Le-Tan may be worth the splurge.

Victoria's Secret is famous for its sexy lingerie and swimwear, but with this beach tote the brand shows its more practical side.

This beach bag embraces summer with its casual straw body and vibrant ombre colors. A tote in pink and orange might not work on the city streets, but it's perfect for time spent on the sand. Perhaps Victoria's Secret should have offered us a few more color options, but I'm sure girly girls will lap up these vivid hues.

The tightly woven colored straw is offset by silvery synthetic handles and pale green zig-zag stitching. We also get a peek at the contrasting aqua blue fabric lined interior. All those colors could easily have looked cluttered, but by keeping the design simple and the body pattern-free Victoria's Secret pulls it off.

This beach tote's design is simple but serviceable. I like the platform base, which helps the bag sit up in the sand. Some girls may long for organizational pockets, but I prefer the uncluttered interior which seems tailor-made for carrying large items like a towel, flip flops, and a magazine. The magnetic snap closure hides these goodies away from prying eyes.

This Victoria's Secret tote isn't the most luxurious bag, but for less than $30 we wouldn't expect that. It does the job, and looks quite cute while doing it!

Carry your towel, glossy magazine, and other summer essentials to the beach in style with this Wild Side Tote from Roxy.

I must say that its name seems like a bit of a misnomer though. There's very little about this tote that walks on the wild side; its wide horizontal stripes are decidedly laid back as is its soft, slouchy cotton canvas body. I don't think that's a flaw, as most of us want to take it easy in summer, but it's worth noting if you were expecting studs and chains!

It might not be edgy, but I can imagine this tote easily complementing your summer wardrobe. I've fallen for the feminine charms of this pink and white striped beach bag, but there are four more color combinations if you'd prefer something less girly.

This tote is well appointed by beach bag standards. The interior is fully lined and packed with pockets of the slip and zip variety. There's plenty of usable space too, so you should have no dramas fitting everything you need to survive summer inside.

At $32, Roxy may not have delivered edge but it has given us a lot of value for our money with this Wild Side tote.

Tory Burch's insignia has become quite the iconic representation of classy footwear. But the brand has a line of bags as well, which includes this glitzy Metallic Beach Tote. This bag belongs on the arms of Blake Lively as she struts around or beach vacations.

For the price of $325, at least this bag can claim that it doesn't look out of place when you take it off the beach. The website suggests it's a worthy airplane bag as well. What makes this bag so versatile is the metallic gold leather, which can go on the beach or on city streets.

It's dimensions (12" H x 20" W x 6" D) promise that you can pack a fool beach day's snacks, a towel, sunscreen, and magazines into it's two zip-close compartments and two interior pockets.

While the Tory Burch website only lists gold as a color option, there seem to be other color variations available as well: silver, black metallic, navy, green.

This look is perfect if you want to bring your urban edge to the beach, but you have to be comfortable with the fact that you're bringing your real-leather bag to the rough outdoors of the beach.
