Prada has ditched the models and opted for playful cartoons to promote its upcoming spring 2011 eyewear collection.

Illustraters Ivo Bisignano, Marcela Gutierrez, and Andrea Tarella have lent their artworks to the commercials, which advertise the Italian fashion house's new limited edition Minimal-Baroque sunglasses.

Choosing playful graphics rather than polished catwalk models seems to be the perfect fit for these artistic shades. They feature swirling rococo curls, bas-relief effects, and enticing contrasting color combinations. I'm particularly fond of the nautical blue and white frames, but there's also a warm white and honey version, or a more traditional black and white one if you prefer.

If you've fallen for their quirky charms you'll need to get in quick. Just 500 pairs of the Minimal-Baroque sunglasses will hit Prada boutiques, Ilori eyewear outlets, and selected department stores next month. If you miss out on those, look for two more Minimal-Baroque models in April.
