Modo SunglassesModo is one sunglasses firm doing its best to go green. While many of the label's frames are made of the harmful plastics and metals we're used to, they're also sold alongside eco ranges for men and women.

Modo's eco range sees it working with used materials such as recycled stainless steel and repurposed plastic. You'd never guess that the frames are made from used materials; now they look just as polished as the rest of Modo's lines. The eco ranges feature many classic sunglass styles including aviators and wayfarers. As an added incentive, the eco sunglasses are also cheaper than most of the label's other shades at $129.

Even if you don't opt for one of Modo's eco styles, your purchase will help the company do good. The company pledges to plant a tree for every pair of sunglasses sold. That helps to offset some of the carbon footprint created by those nastier sunglass styles. The label also feels a social responsibility, and works with different organizations to show communities in third-world countries how to live more sustainably.

While I'd be more impressed if Modo's entire range was green, it's great to see the eyewear label taking steps in the right direction. Its sunglasses are available from the Modo website.
