Louis Vuitton Tambour II WatchLouis Vuitton is following up the release of its original Tambour Diver watch with the Tambour Diving II.

The original case size and movement remains, but the new model has a more practical, athletic look. Gone are the luxury touches like mother-of-pearl accents, replaced instead with more modest, nautical inspired features. The hands have a thinner, more streamlined appearance, and the hour markers are luminescent and round.

The Tambour Diving II will also be water resistant to a depth of 300 meters, and have an ETA 2895 automatic movement inside.

The Tambour Diving II watch will be available in a choice of black or metallic blue dials for men and women. The men's case will be 44 mm wide, while the women get a more delicate 39.5 mm version.

I miss the retro luxury of the original Tambour, and wonder why Louis Vuitton would release a new version if it couldn't improve on its first attempt. Perhaps it's better to consider the Tambour Diving II not as an alternative watch, but simply a companion piece.

There are no release dates or prices available at this point, but considering the more modest styling I'd hope the new Tambour is much cheaper than its predecessor. But considering the Louis Vuitton name attached, I won't hold my breath.
