Roxy embraces its feminine side with these Hobo Surf Sand Flower boardshorts.

Its name is complicated and a real mouthful, but there's little to these swim shorts, literally! These shorts certainly live up to their name. They show a whole lot of leg, so I hope yours are toned, tanned, and not still carrying any extra Christmas kilos! The skimpy design won't suit self conscious sun lovers, but it's perfect for girls who love to show off on the sand.

Board shorts are often pretty androgynous apparel items, so I'm thrilled to see a pair with a more feminine design. The dainty cut-outs make the scalloped hemline look a little like lace. However it's much sturdier than this popular accent. Just what you need when you're spending time in the waves! I also love the pop of color the striped waistband provides. If you want more color you can choose neon berry over basic black, but personally I think this saturated hue takes things a step too far.

There's not a lot of material here, so I think the Hobo Surf Sand Flower swim shorts are priced just right at $48. Is there a place for them in your summer wardrobe?

Roxy New Twist Tube Dress | Ikat Print Cover-Up

Roxy takes you from the beach to a waterfront café with this cute New Twist tube dress.

With so many labels churning out shapeless beach dresses, it's refreshing to see one with a bit more style. The twisted front bodice features a keyhole detail, allowing us to show just a bit of skin. This cheeky feature is matched by a peek-a-boo opening beneath the rear tie. I love all these naughty details, but they do make sunscreen all important. The last thing you want is telltale red marks once you leave the shore!

The bold Ikat style print is also compelling. I like it best in red and blue, but it's also quite striking in the classic black and white combo. The pattern gets lost in the pale pink version, but that subtlety may appeal to less daring dressers. The asymmetrical hemline and removable shoestring straps complete this modern summer design.

This cover-up is made from a practical blend of cotton and polyester. That makes it comfortable to wear and easy to take care of. Just throw it in the washing machine on a cold cycle and it'll come out good as new. The fabric choice also benefits our hip pocket. You'll find this New Twist dress for an affordable $39.50.

They might not be the most fashion forward flip flops around, but after a day wearing them you'll likely thank Roxy for creating the Gracias.

There's no getting around it; these flip flops are pretty ugly. The large buckle only makes the wide straps appear even chunkier. They're far from feminine, especially since we can only choose between black and pewter. They're the kind of shoes most of us would never slip on our feet, but you know what they say about judging books by their covers.

What the Gracias lacks in grace it makes up for in comfort. The straps are made of buttery leather, and the sole lined with soft suede. This sole has built in cushioning too to absorb the shocks when you're walking or jogging along the shore. It's got only the slightest of heels too, so we don't feel any undue pressure on the balls of our feet. Flip these flip flops over and you'll see the traction-patterned outsole, which works like the tread of a car tire to keep you upright.

At least taking a chance on these flip flops will cost you just $39. That's not a lot to pay for comfortable shoes, no matter how unattractive they look!

Roxy deliver a simple yet timeless beach cover-up with this Pearl Tide dress.

I must admit, I'm a bit torn on this cover-up. On the one hand, I appreciate the simplicity of this cover up. By taking a more minimalist approach than many designers, Roxy's ensured this cover-up won't date. Helping its cause is the choice of a single color rather than a print. The vibrant turquoise blue has a bit of personality, but it's much more timeless than most patterns would be.

But for the price, an affordable $33, I'm not sure I want Roxy to think about timelessness. At that money it's hardly an investment piece after all. Instead I just wish the label had a bit more fun with it. The elasticized waist is really the only accent, which is very disappointing.

I've never known Roxy to create an apparel item I felt so ambivalent about. There's something to be said for timelessness, but I think it needs to be delivered in a much more appealing package. The blend of cotton and modal should feel soft against your skin, and the adjustable shoestring straps allow you to get just the right fit, but I still find myself asking "So what?"

This is a rustic looking sunhat, with its woven paper straw finish and matching straw tie accent. Its pretty pink wash gives it a youthful energy. It almost seems like the natural straw has been spray painted, or perhaps even tie-dyed. If that sugary pink is a bit girly for you, you'll find the Kinda Shady with a white or tan wash. Or you could just stick with the classic natural straw version. Every sunhat is adorned by the metal Roxy badge, which is a chic way to stamp its surf pedigree.

The Kinda Shady is much more than a stylish addition to your summer wardrobe though. Its wide brim will keep the sun off your neck, ears, and shoulders, so it's very smart as well. Most stains will also wipe away, so you can keep this sunhat looking good for several beach seasons.

There's also an internal headband which sucks up sweat and helps the hat fit snugly. Beware though that this hat doesn't come in a variety of sizes. Instead it's "one size fits most," so if your noggin is on either side of average this may not be the sunhat for you.

White always looks pops against a deep summer tan, but if you're a bit fairer you might prefer the black alternative. They'll ensure you don’t appear too washed out, which is never a good look on the sand! You'll find both colors available for a relatively affordable $59.45.

In America they call them French fries, but in the UK and Australia they're hot chips. No matter what you call them, leaving the shore to get a steaming bag of the potato treats from a local kiosk or takeaway store is a treasured childhood summer memory. Just as hot chips make me nostalgic for my youth, so does this playful Roxy tankini that shares its name.

The thick red and white stripes around the bust are paired with thinner stripes below. The effect is nautical, without being as obvious as an anchor print! It's also youthful but not childish, a blessing for the young at heart amongst us!

It's called a teeny tankini, but that's probably overstating the point. Roxy does make this swim top in medium and large sizes, so while plus-sized beach lovers will miss out, you don't have to be stick thin to wear it.

The element that makes me pause most is those skinny black straps. They might work well on the black and white Hot Chip tankini, but in this sunset color combination, and the ceramic option, they seem really out of place.

Still, this is a minor misstep on a tankini which is quite reasonably priced at $46.

Roxy Shove It Board Shorts | Reversible Retro Stop & Go Print Women’s Swim Pants

Roxy add a little color to summer time with these Shove It board shorts.

With a design as obnoxious as their name, these shorts are loud and proud! They are adorned with a colorful psychedelic print that's so bright, you've got to wear shades around them.

Before you back away from this rainbow of design, it's worth pausing for a moment. These are just the kind of board shorts that could make a classic black one-piece or bikini top look fabulous. They could also pick up other matte colors too, so perhaps they're not as outlandish as they first appear.

Roxy knows many of us will hesitate to embrace such a lurid pattern, so it's made these Shove It shorts reversible. When turned inside out, the rainbow is gone, replaced with a weathered denim-looking gray. It's a dramatic departure, which makes it all the more appealing. Suddenly we get a pair of board shorts that could work well with a brightly colored and patterned swimsuit.

The Shove It shorts looks are striking, but they don't tell the whole story. Roxy takes care of us on the practical front too. These shorts are made from a soft polyester suede material which is comfortable to wear and quick to dry once you hit the sand. They are a slim fit pair of shorts though, which while flattering hinders movement. You won't mind if you're wading through the waves, but if you've got surfing or swimming in mind you may want something a bit looser.

At $52 these board shorts were already cheap, but with their two-for-one appeal they represent real value.

Roxy bridges the gap between board shorts and bikini bottoms in style with these naughty Flashback Cheeky Hipsters.

In terms of showing skin, these are much closer to a pair of bikini briefs than boardies. While the boy leg is a little longer than swimsuit bottoms, it's certainly not going to cover cellulite or chunky thighs. While they're slightly more modest than briefs, I wouldn't wear them unless you're really comfortable with your body.

If you are though, wear away! The blend of nylon and spandex is lightweight, comfortable, and quick to dry, and the cut is very stylish. I also love the retro purple, white, and blue print which gives the Flashback its name. My only hesitation is with the peace sign charms on the drawstring. They just seem a little too obvious for my tastes, but as they're small they're hardly deal breakers.

Roxy sells a complementary Flashback bikini top, but you needn't buy the set if it's not to your taste. I think these shorts would work really well with a plain royal blue or purple bikini or tankini, depending on how modest you are!

At $44 these Cheeky Hipster bikini bottoms aren't cheap, but they're unique enough to justify spending a bit extra, especially if you're pairing them with a more affordable swim top.

Roxy Syncro Wetsuit | 4/3mm Women’s Black Full Surf Suit

Surf label Roxy has recently redesigned its iconic women's Syncro wetsuit to make it their best yet.

The newly crafted suit is made from flexible and lightweight neoprene. This stretchy high tech material ensures you don't feel restricted as you're paddling through the waves, or catching them.

Its look is simple in basic black, but the pink heart shaped Roxy logo on the chest does give it a bit of personality.

Every one of the wetsuit's seams is sealed to keep the cold water out, even in the middle of winter. In fact, the Syncro is designed to be used in temperatures around 55 degrees, so the end of summer need not signal the end of your year's surfing.

This is also a very comfortable suit to wear. The neck closure is full adjustable, so it won't chafe your skin when it's wet. There's also a full length zipper, so you can easily get into the suit, and out of it again once you're done for the day.

At $139.95 this wetsuit represents a serious investment. However with a one-year warranty on its materials and craftsmanship, it may be an investment worth making. Just ensure you rinse it in fresh water and hang it out to dry once you emerge from the waves to make it last.
