L*Space Au Natural Sliding Bikini | Earthy Striped Halter Swim Top

L*Space takes a more rustic approach to design than usual with this Au Natural Sliding Bikini.

I'm used to bold colors and fashion forward designs from L*Space, so this more bohemian bikini comes from left of field. I'm not sure what the labels fans will make of it, but I expect it might encourage hippie chicks to see the brand in a new light. L*Space hasn't abandoned its high class image altogether though. The 19-karat gold plated links on the straps are a luxurious complement to the more rustic triangle top.

I love the earthy coloring of the Au Natural, and the change of pace this swimsuit represents. But I feel L*Space is attempting to pull the wool over our eyes. Its name implies that this swimsuit is natural, yet it's crafted from a blend of manmade fibers. Hemp or bamboo would have been much kinder on the planet than this nylon and spandex concoction.

I'm not sure whether L*Space intended to deceive its customers, but this swimsuit leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What is an otherwise good looking bikini suddenly seems like a dishonest grab for green cash. A more appropriate name would have made all the difference.

Luli Fama Mariposa Traicionera Bikini | Skimpy Purple Butterfly Decorated String Swim Top

Luli Fama's created an itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikini with some extra flair with this Mariposa Tracionera swim top.

It's up to you to decide whether this bikini has too much flair. The pretty frills are a lovely way to soften the traditional bikini triangles. With a name like the Mariposa Tracionera, we probably expected the large butterflies that have landed at the top of those triangles. But personally I think the crystals take things a step too far.

It's also disappointing that Luli Fama only offers it in this purple shade called wild orchid. I've got nothing against the hue, but a few more options would have helped this swimsuit appeal to a wider audience.

If you do love it, it's worth noting how skimpy it is. While the triangles slide to allow a little extra modesty, they're never going to cover up enough for conservative beachgoers. The Mariposa Traicionera is definitely a bikini for girls that feel very comfortable in their own skin.

The Mariposa Traicionera swim top is too fussy for my tastes, but I think it could be really popular amongst teen and tween sun lovers. However for $84, they'll spend some time saving their pocket money for it!

Guess On Thin Ice Bikini | White Gemstone Encrusted Triangle Swim Top

Guess seems to have taken a bedazzler to a classic white bikini with this On Thin Ice swim top.

At its heart, this is your stock standard triangle style string bikini. All of its flash comes from the assortment of gems and studs. The application of the scattered metal discs and jewels seems a little heavy handed at first. However by restricting the accents to the lines along the cups, I think Guess has offered enough white space to make this work.

By biggest problem is the practicality of allowing the details to do all the talking. I'm no chemist, but I know that glue and salt water don't mix. It's only a matter of time before the accents come free, and then we'll be left with a basic and very boring bikini. It might work if you spend all your time sunbathing, but it's not really suited to active sun lovers.

And of course because of those gems we can't simply throw the On Thin Ice in the washing machine. It'll need hand washing, and careful hand washing at that, to give the accents a fighting chance.

Personally I think the On Thin Ice bikini seems like more trouble than it's worth, but more patient beach goers may feel differently.

Vix Ubud Bia Bikini | Sexy Tribal Printed Swim Top

Vix shows off a little more skin than usual with this sexy Ubud Bia Bikini.

The Bia style is one of Vix's most revealing, but I've never seen it decorated quite as attractively as this. The Ubud tribal print is right on trend and its colors perfect for summer. The purple and teal hues might not be very traditional but they're ideal for time spent on the beach. I love the way modern Western style meets time-honored tradition here.

The Bia style is skimpy but surprisingly flattering for all body shapes. It shows off curves beautifully, and also makes petite figures seem more feminine, especially when you add the removable padded cups. The D and DD cup tops are also fitted with double straps underneath the bust for extra support. The gold coated accents make the swimsuit appear richer, but they also allow us to adjust the straps for just the right fit. With sizes ranging from a small to a double-extra large, there should be a Bia to suit everybody.

At $92 this swim top is on the expensive side, but it's not unreasonable for such a stunning bikini. Pair it with your choice of matching full-coverage or Brazilian briefs for a stylish summer look.

The swimsuit is also made in the United States from a blend of polyester, cotton, and spandex. The homegrown manufacturing ensures this bikini meets the highest standard. Vix puts fashion first with this luxurious looking Cambra bikini top.

Snakeskin embossed leather tabs liven up not just the straps, but the entire bikini. Without them this black swim top would look like so many others. But they really add personality to the design while making it feel that much more luxurious. However we've always been told to keep our leather goods away from water, so their addition is a somewhat curious choice. I can't imagine how those accents would look after a few summers of serious swimming. Perhaps this is a bikini better suited to sun bathers than water babies.

Those girls will appreciate all the little extras we find in Vix swimwear. The supportive lift of the halter-neck style combines with the removable padding in the cups to enhance the figure of any beachgoer. The top's style is sexy but not too revealing, and you can mix and match it with the choice of briefs to make this swimsuit as racy or as reserved as you like. Choose the sexy Brazilian style or the full-coverage bottoms if you prefer a little more mystery.

Unfortunately we'll have to pay more for those briefs though. At $100 for the top alone, the Cambra is an expensive proposition. Thank goodness its style is so timeless!

Vix Odette Bikini | Striped Triangle Leather Accented Swim Top

Vix puts a modern twist on the classic black and white color combination with this contemporary Odette Bikini.

This traditional white triangle bikini is adorned with skinny black horizontal stripes. The casual stripes are complemented by leather details at the shoulders. I love the luxurious look these calfskin swatches bring, but I'm concerned about them on a practical level. I was always told to keep my leather goods out of the rain, so I wonder how these patches will hold up in the ocean. Vix doesn't tell us that it treats the leather in a special way, so their longevity is uncertain.

If you prefer to spend time on the sand than in the surf though, you'll likely appreciate the Odette's luxurious good looks, which are stylish without appearing stuffy. I appreciate the way the golden grommets set off the leather pieces and the extra shape and support the removable cups provide.

That level of luxury doesn't come cheaply though. The Odette bikini top costs $100, the same price as many complete swimsuits. It's not for girls on a budget, but the Odette's head-turning good looks make it a tempting proposition for anyone with cash to splash about this summer.

All too often celebrity style comes at a high price. But with the Becca Color Code swimsuit we can emulate Kim Kardashian's bikini body without putting ourselves in a financial hole.

You might remember seeing Kim K wearing this bikini on the cover of Shape magazine. She showed us that even a simple bikini like this can look amazing if you've got the right body. It's that simplicity that is both the Color Code's biggest strength, and its greatest weakness.

Let's face it; we don't all have Kim Kardashian's body. I worry that if we're simply Jane Average this basic bikini will blend into the background. It looks so good on Kim because she's got curves in all the right places. The removable cups in the bust help give us a boost, but unless we're genetically blessed we won't attract the same stares on the beach.

The basic styling isn't entirely a bad thing though. By keeping things classic, Becca's ensured its bikini won't date. But then again, is longevity really what we're looking for in such a cheap bikini?

The Color Code is a real bargain at $36. Just don't blame us if you don't turn as many heads as Ms Kardashian when you step out in it!

Ella Moss Sahara Bikini | Black Crochet Beaded Triangle Swim Top

Ella Moss proves a black bikini doesn't have to be basic with this gorgeous Sahara swim top.

I've chosen to show you this particular image of the Sahara, because it's one of those swimsuits which really should be admired up close. It's not that it doesn't look lovely from a distance, but you lose all that intricate crochet work. This sixties inspired finish is perfect for the current retro trend, however as it's quite subtle it shouldn't date once the fashion has passed. Wooden beads up the hippie chic factor, providing a nice counterpoint to the standard triangle cut.

The Sahara should feel heavenly to wear thanks to its blend of micro nylon and spandex. The micro nylon is ultra soft, while the spandex gives the fabric the flexibility you need in the water. The material is quick to dry once you leave the waves too, so you needn't sit about in wet swimwear.

The sizes are skewed towards the small end of the spectrum, which is likely to disappoint larger girls. The style would certainly flatter any shape, so it's disappointing the range is so restrictive. However at least the removable cups show Ella Moss is considering the needs of its target audience. I'm sure they'll enjoy the Sahara's relatively affordable $63 price tag.
