Molten serves up a beach volleyball to rival the pros' equipment with the BV-5000.

This ball is the same size and weight as the ones that professional athletes use. It's also made from tough polyurethane panels that are hand-stitched together to ensure their quality. And finally it's approved by the International Federation of Volleyball, a credential that most commercial balls can't boast.

In fact, it seems the only real difference between this ball and the ones the Olympians play with is the price. At $51.45 it's a mid-priced volleyball, not cheap but certainly affordable for its quality.

Whether it's worth the money probably depends on your budget and your passion for the game. If your finances are tight, or you only get to the shore on the odd occasions, then a cheaper ball will probably serve your purposes. However if you play regularly, or simply have a little more to spend, you'll appreciate the longevity a ball like the Molten BV-5000 provides.

It's after time that this ball really comes into its own. That's the point where other balls bust, or start to stiffen. However the Molten's finish is so superior that it will actually stay soft after several summers of wear. If you can afford it, I'm sure your hands will thank you for splurging a little!

This kit takes care of everything you need for a game of beach volleyball. There's the net with adjustable poles, so adults and kids can both get in on the action. There are also ground stakes and ropes to keep the net in place, and of course a cloth-covered ball. You needn't struggle with all that sporting equipment either, because Halex sells its kit in a convenient carry bag.

This volleyball kit is perfect for a game on the sand, but I wouldn't pack it away once the weather cools. The stakes will work just as well in the grass, so you could erect the net in the backyard or take it to a park for some practice in the off season.

At $39.99 this volleyball set is very cheap, although you do get what you pay for. Both the net and the poles are made from PVC, rather than hardier materials. That keeps the cost as well as the weight down, but this kit isn't built to survive time out in the elements or any serious punishment. Still, for that price it won't be too expensive to replace the set in time.

This Spiral Club ball from Mikasa helps volleyballers improve their game, and look good while they're doing it.

The dramatic looks were the first thing that struck me about this volleyball. The yellow swirling design looks dazzling against the royal blue body, but it also serves a very practical purpose. The eight-panel style gives players a larger hands-on surface area, which makes it easier to control the ball and improve their game.

Customers describe the Spiral Club as a "strikers" ball, as it gives a nice, satisfying response when you hit it. That's great for striking specialists, but it also means this ball won't suit every player's game. The outer layer is thinner than other balls on the market, and some people complain that it's too light, and too unforgiving.

It's all a matter of personal preference though. Volleyball enthusiasts may want to play with it before deciding to purchase one, while novices are likely to be satisfied with the job it does.

I particularly like the way the seams are attached to the ball's body, thus trapping air between the panels and making it feel a little softer to the touch. Anyone who's suffered sore arms after a frenetic paced game of volleyball will appreciate this treatment. However some balls suffer from poor stitching, so you may want to look yours over before laying your money down.

Thankfully Mikasa isn't asking a lot for this volleyball. At $49.99, it's reasonably priced for serious volleyballers and anyone who just enjoys a game at the beach.

If you love beach volleyball, why not tell everyone about it with this cute pink racerback tank top?

This adorable shirt from Activewear Apparel's volleyball collection has a sexy slim fit and a cheeky message. If you've spent a lot of time working out that cut will really flatter your athletic physique, but if you're more of a casual volleyball fan the slim design will show a few lumps and bumps. Just because a shirt comes in a double extra large doesn't mean it'll look appealing at this size after all!

If you do have the body for it though, this is a great shirt to wear while you're practicing or even in your downtime. I love the way the white Love Volley slogan and ball really pop against the girly hot pink background.

A few more color options would have helped this tank top appeal to less girly volleyball enthusiasts, but I love its bold feminine look. I can imagine it'd look just as sexy paired with some tiny summer shorts or a pair of bikini bottoms. The blend of combed cotton and spandex stretch jersey is very comfortable, and should breathe well in the summer heat.

Vincere Sand Socks | Unisex Beach Volleyball Feet Protectors

Anyone who's ever tripped over their flip flops on the sand knows that this footwear isn't ideal for playing volleyball. You could always strip off your shoes, but then your fragile feet would burn on the sand. Vincere has developed a practical alternative with its sand socks.

Despite the wild lightning bolts, these socks aren't the height of fashion. They certainly won't look sexy when paired with a skimpy bikini. But they will do the job, and do it well.

The soles are made of tough neoprene, so they'll protect your feet from the sun-warmed sand, as well as stones and other sharp objects on the shore. The socks' upper and cuff are crafted from lycra, which allows your feet to breathe while you're working up a sweat, and keeps the sand out.

These Vincere sand socks are made for men and women, although some of the colors are pretty gender specific. I can't imagine the lads loving the pink and black socks, and the all black and beige ones are a bit boring for the ladies.

I'd never wear these sand socks while relaxing on the sand as its makers suggest – they're far too unfashionable for that – but they're a great option for active beach bunnies.

Mikasa VBN-2 Competition Volleyball Net | Affordable Beach Sports Equipment

It might not be as suitable for the pros as its name suggests, but this volleyball net from Mikasa should satisfy beach enthusiasts keen for a game.

The old adage that you get what you pay for rings true here. The polyester netting seems strong, but it's also quite stiff. It's not the sturdiest of nets, and it's an inch skinnier than regulation. That's disappointing for a net that claims to suit competition, but it probably won't bother the average beach goer.

For them, a volleyball net is simply a way to divide the sand for a game, and this Mikasa net does that job admirably. The aircraft steel cable running along the top is stronger than the cloth or nylon cords we find in most nets at this price point, and it also helps you pull the net nice and tight. It's specially treated to stand up to the salty sea air and the strongest spikes, so it should last for many heated games. It also folds up for easy carrying in your beach tote, which is more than we can say for the balls!

If you're really after a volleyball net of competition standard this one isn't it, but this affordable Mikasa accessory will probably do the job well enough to suit the average beach volleyball fan.

Spalding says you'll rule the sand this summer when you play with its King of the Beach volleyball ball.

This outdoor volleyball ball is crafted from soft touch composite leather, so it feels gentler on the hands than many professional balls. If you're a serious athlete that could be a disadvantage, but if you're playing with your family or friends it'll be a real plus.

Thankfully this softness doesn't mean the Spalding ball isn't strong. One customer reported that her ball survived a few run ins with a rusty barbed wire fence, so it seems it's almost as durable as Spalding claims. Just don't kick it directly as this customer's playmate did! It'll survive regular game play but it's not completely invincible.

Nevertheless, the hardy design means we're not restricted to the sand; we could set up an impromptu game in a parking lot or our own backyard.

The traditional 18 panels are machine stitched into this Spalding ball. That helps it fly true from a spike or serve. When a ball delivers that, I'm not sure amateurs really need to spend money on professional equipment. At $12, this Spalding King of the Beach ball does the job without leaving a large dent in our wallet.

We all know that volleyball is the sport of choice on the beach, even George W. Bush is a keen fan of the sport!

Many people see the sport as not being that difficult, with many men seeing it as the perfect spectator sport. However, any girl that has taken volleyball up as a sport can tell you it can really get challenging.

I think this blue T-Shirt (pictured right) is a great tee for girl volleyball fans. It's made from pre-shrunk cotton and comes in a bright blue. It is available in all sizes from small to medium to extra large with the design printed on the front.

I don't know how wear and tear resistant the print on the front would be but for $16 you can't go wrong.
