Catherine Deneuve Releases Sunglasses | Actress Inspired Summer Shades

Screen legend Catherine Deneuve has launched a small capsule collection of sunglasses for the spring and summer of 2012. There are six designs in all available through the actress' Catherine Deneuve Lunettes line, part of the Viva International Group.

Each frame can be converted into a pair of prescription sunglasses, making them extra versatile for the company's target market of women over the age of 55. The cfirm says this demographic is aware of trends but not driven by them. Instead these ladies look for classic elegance and timeless style. Much like Catherine Deneuve herself!

Catherine Deneuve Lunette's general manager Liz Tontodonati said her company recognized a gap in the market for sunglasses made for mature women that look good but don't cost a lot of money. The small range looks to fill that hole by capturing Deneuve's "style, elegance, and Joie de Vivre."

You don't need a Hollywood bank balance to indulge in these beauties either. They cost just $39.95 for the sunglasses, a protective hard case, and a cleaning cloth. What a bargain!

A few more choices would have been lovely, but for that sort of money I'm not about to quibble. Would you wear Catherine Deneuve sunglasses, or do you prefer more youthful designs?

Versace will release a new eyewear collection called Versace Etoile De La Mer, just in time for summer.

The high-end fashion house is tempting us already with this image from the Versace Etoile De La Mer advertising campaign. It takes something special to distract us from Gisele Bundchen's dazzling beauty, but these striking oversized sunglasses fit the bill. I love the amber tint and the contemporary accents along the bridge of the nose. The gleaming metallic decoration is mirrored in the sunglasses' intricate arms.

The Italian fashion label says it designed its new sunglasses to reflect a Versace siren making her way through the city during the sweltering summer heat. That makes the Brazilian beauty an appropriate choice to become the line's face, even if she does seem to be selling every high end product on the market at the moment. Company creative director Donatella Versace says she chose the model for her "bold" beauty.

"She radiates true strength and sensuality," Versace added.

I can't argue with that, although I'm almost getting sick of seeing Gisele in commercials. Isn't it about time the fashion industry found some fresh faces?

Look for the Versace Etoile De La Mer shades at your local Sunglass Hut outlet this April.

Chloe recently inked a deal with Marchon, who will manufacture and distribute a range of sunglasses and optical eyewear for the French fashion house.

The agreement is a real coup for Marchon. The company's far from a household name, but with licenses for labels like Emilio Pucci, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Salvatore Ferragamo and more it's only a matter of time. The business is certainly proving it’s got what it takes to please fashion's big guns, so it cant be too long before consumers take notice.

Marchon's president and chief executive officer Claudio Gottardi said the partnership with Chloe is "exciting" for his firm.

"The dedicated Chloe consumer appreciates luxurious sunwear and eyewear and we are looking forward to leveraging the brand DNA as we translate the delicate femininity from the ready-to-wear to our new collection," he explained.

The Chloe glasses will celebrate the French fashion house's femininity while offering the latest technical eyewear advancements. Marchon will look to Chloe's ready to wear collection for inspiration, so the shades should be easy to pair with your favorite Chloe outfits and accessories.

It's just a shame that the new collection won't hit stores before the Northern Hemisphere's summer. Look for the shades and spectacles at Chloe boutiques, high end department and specialty stores, and leading optical outlets around the world this September.

For many years Nicole Richie's look was defined by her oversized sunglasses. So it makes sense that the socialite turned designer has offered some new shades via her House of Harlow 1960 fashion label.

These Willow sunglasses are a real departure from the enormous ones that Nicole herself used to sport. They're large but not massive, with a classic round frame and protective gradient black lenses. While they're a bit more demure than the sunglasses Richie made famous, that doesn't mean they'll suit everybody. While they're perfect for square and oval faces, they'll make round faces appear even rounder. The black color is also very dramatic, so it really needs a tan to minimize the contrast. Pale skin will only emphasize the Harry Potter quality of the shades!

These sunglasses really showcase how well Richie has developed as a designer. They're simple but elegant, with delicate temples and discreet golden logos at the hinges. At $107 they're also not a bad price either. We can find plenty of sunglasses cheaper of course, and many even with comparable looks, but they don't boast the same designer pedigree. It's the little things like the leather traveling pouch which make all the difference.

Juicy Couture abandons its usual flash for a more classic look with these Pixie sunglasses.

Their name sounds playful, but these sunglasses are really pretty straight laced, especially by Juicy Couture standards. That's actually why I think this pale coral pink is the pick of the bunch. Such a sedate style really needs an unexpected shade to liven things up. In the other colors, which include black and dark tortoiseshell, the Pixie seems rather pedestrian.

The lenses are tinted in a variety of colors to suit the frames. The coral ones get a smoky tan treatment, while other frames get various browns. They're all 100% UV rated to protect your peepers from the sun's harmful rays.

Whichever colors takes your fancy, the Pixie will flatter your face, particularly if it's round. The soft angled rectangle frames help to add definition and minimize natural curves.

The branding is subtle, with just a nameplate on the frames. I'm not used to such nuanced logos from Juicy Couture, but this move away from obvious signatures helps make these sunglasses right on trend.

I just wish I felt we were paying for the sunglasses rather than the name attached to them. At $231.25 they're particularly expensive for a pair of plastic shades.

Suno has teamed up with Warby Parker for a head-turning new eyewear line.

It makes sense for these labels to get together, as both have a strong philanthropic commitment. Suno was conceived as a reaction to the economic slump Kenya suffered when violence erupted after the country's controversial 2009 election. Warby Parker is a philanthropic pioneer with its famous "buy a pair, give a pair" business model.

The range features the best from both fashion houses. Warby Parker's familiar geek-chic frames have been given some extra color with the familiar rainbow prints of Suno's Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty.

There are three different styles to choose from: cat's eye frames, round ones, and classic aviators. Each one is also available in each of the collaborative line's patterns. The geometric and floral textile style prints were inspired by Suno's designers' frequent travels to Kenya, the India, and Peru. The designers produce their label's apparel in these far flung locations to help stimulate their struggling economies.

This designer collaboration doesn't see Warby Parker relaxing its philanthropic commitment either. Just as with the regular Warby Parker shades, for every pair of limited edition sunglasses sold the label will donate a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need.
