I love the cut of this beach dress, which is reminiscent of a sexy evening outfit. The V-shaped neck and soft, handkerchief hemline are truly lovely. And unlike many evening dresses, the floating style should flatter all figures. You'll find it in small to extra large, although it's worth noting that these sizes run a little large for comfort. If you're trying to decide between two sizes, the smaller will probably serve you better.

The light crinkle cotton is ideal for keeping you cool on steamy summer days, but it doesn't really seem worth the price of almost $50. Many customers report that the fabric feels cheap, and one said she tore a hole in it when removing a sticker! That lack of quality also has a more serious implication when you’re on the beach. It's too thin to offer serious sun protection, which is really what most of us want in a cover up.

I wouldn't trust this halter dress to give me protection while sunbathing, but it'd be ideal for throwing on for a meal at a beachside café, or a nighttime beach barbecue. In classic black or white, it might not last for many summers but it should turn heads before it falls apart.

Unlike traditional wristlets which dangle from the wrist, the Surf Showstopper is worn like a watch. Simple strap it on and forget about it while jogging along the beach or hitting the waves.

As you might expect from a purse designed to be worn on the wrist, the Showstoppers are pretty small. Rather than looking to replace your beach bag, they're designed to carry the items you don't want to leave on the shore like your loose change, vital cards, car keys, and cell phone.

The Surf Showstopper is available in both small and large sizes, although sadly they're both only available in basic black. Hopefully it's only a matter of time before we see more interesting waterproof designs; something like the brand's flowery corsage bags or cow printed classic purses would allow the Showstopper to live up to its head-turning name.

This is really just a bigger version of the shirts the kids wear, although its design is more muted. While the kids' rashies are generally patterned with fluorescent colors, the women's alternative is quite conservative. It's not as stylish as Speedo claims, but its basic black body and feminine pink arms are pleasing enough.

This is a shirt which is more about being practical than pretty though. The blend of nylon and spandex is appropriate for wear in and out of the water, and resistant to the sun's harmful rays. Unlike a bikini it'll protect your shoulders and tummy too, although you'll still need to remember the sunscreen for your face, arms, and legs.

The Rashguard design isn't as snug fitting as a traditional rash shirt which makes it more comfortable to wear, especially if you're active. While it'll provide great protection when you're sunbathing, it's also ideal for wearing while you're in the surf or playing a game of beach volleyball.

As with many beach clothes though, this Rashguard Tee will require careful handling. You can't wash it in your regular hot water wash, or iron or dry clean it. You'll also need to rinse it thoroughly if you wear it in the pool as the chlorine will affect the fabric. These are inconveniences shared with most similar products though, so we shouldn't be too surprised.

For $36, this Rashguard Tee is a smart, if not altogether stylish, addition to your beach wardrobe.

The glasses in the Heritage Collection take their cues from the designs of the 70s and 80s, but it's not merely a rehashing of the past. The range gives these classic looks 21st century makeovers which utilize the best in modern technology.

The titanium frames are lightweight and resistant to corrosion, while the lenses are made from thin, shatter-proof polycarbonate with a premium, anti-reflective coating.

There are four different aviator styles in the Porsche Designs Heritage Collection, which are available in a selection of frame colors. The prices are on the high side though, with the cheapest costing $250 and the most expensive $409. However, those hefty costs aren't really unexpected given the Porsche name attached to them.

While caps keep the sun from your face, this floppy straw hat will protect your ears and shoulders from harmful UVA and UVB rays. On a more superficial level, it also looks gorgeous with its natural toned woven straw and stylish leather band. It's a simple design, but a classic one which has been adopted by stars like Fergie and Sienna Miller. In fact, the Black Eyed Peas singer has even been spotted wearing hers in the airport, so don't be afraid to wear yours away from the shore.

Floppy wide brimmed hats like this flatter most face shapes and outfits. The gentle way the brim falls softens the face, while the muted natural tone won't look too busy next to a printed swimsuit. However, they're not for everyone. Petite girls tend to get lost under such a large hat, and would be better served with something much smaller.

This Spiegel sunhat also isn't as convenient as a cap or similar fabric hats. While these styles will happily sit inside your beach bag, the brittle straw will suffer if you stash it away. You can wear it while you walk to the sand of course, but storage may become a problem when winter rolls around.

At least if the straw does suffer in storage this Spiegel hat doesn't cost too much to replace. At $29, it's an affordable way to keep the sunburn at bay.

The plain black shorts are livened up with white striping and colorful bands along the wide, shirred waistband. Some might think the mostly black design is a bit boring, but I think it just makes them that much more versatile. While printed board shorts look too busy when paired with patterned swimsuits, these Tavarua shorts will happily work with any one-piece or bikini, plain or printed.

As you'd expect from surf brand Roxy, these are a well-made pair of board shorts. They're crafted from a poly microfiber material which is both durable and comfortable. The material also dries quickly; after a spot of sunbathing it should be ready to pack away in your beach tote.

The short cut might deter more modest beach goers, but it's got more than sex appeal. It also allows for better movement than longer styles. If you enjoy a run along the sand or a game of beach volleyball, this style is ideal.

At $35.99, these Tavarua board shorts are an affordable and versatile addition to your summer wardrobe.

As their quirky moniker suggests, these flip flops are thick and sumptuously soft. Your feet will sink down into the squishy top soles, while the EVA midsoles will give you the support you need. That blend of comfort and care makes the Mush a great everyday footwear option. In fact, many customers say they wear them all year round.

If you do though, don't be surprised if the quality deteriorates in time. The sole will flatten out, and they'll lose that alluring cushiony quality. On the bright side though, you'll get plenty of wear for your $24 before that happens. And when it does, it won't break the bank to replace them.

These distinctive shades are not for shy retiring types. Each one of the fourteen pairs in the Chanel Boutique Exclusives has its own unique character.

I love the mystery of these Chanel Masquerade Ball sunglasses (pictured right), even if the shades aren't entirely practical for beachwear.

If you'd prefer to go hands-free (and a bit closer to normal), consider the pale gold aviator sunglasses with their sheath of wheat "eyebrows," the oval acetate frames with their quirky cut-out lenses, or the uniquely shaped Baroque inspired shades (pictured below).

There's certainly a place for classic eyewear, but the Chanel Boutique Exclusives collection reminds us that there's also a place for fun.

By resisting current trends, they're not going to date as quickly as sunglasses which follow fashion. In fact, they're likely to work for many seasons to come. That's a good thing too when you're buying Chanel. The French fashion house's website doesn't reveal any prices, but if I know this luxury brand these new sunglasses won't come cheaply.
