You'll feel like a Grecian goddess wearing this floaty, feminine cover-up from Alki'i.

I love the cut of this beach dress, which is reminiscent of a sexy evening outfit. The V-shaped neck and soft, handkerchief hemline are truly lovely. And unlike many evening dresses, the floating style should flatter all figures. You'll find it in small to extra large, although it's worth noting that these sizes run a little large for comfort. If you're trying to decide between two sizes, the smaller will probably serve you better.

The light crinkle cotton is ideal for keeping you cool on steamy summer days, but it doesn't really seem worth the price of almost $50. Many customers report that the fabric feels cheap, and one said she tore a hole in it when removing a sticker! That lack of quality also has a more serious implication when you’re on the beach. It's too thin to offer serious sun protection, which is really what most of us want in a cover up.

I wouldn't trust this halter dress to give me protection while sunbathing, but it'd be ideal for throwing on for a meal at a beachside café, or a nighttime beach barbecue. In classic black or white, it might not last for many summers but it should turn heads before it falls apart.

Billabong shows us that you needn't sacrifice style for sun protection with this cute Nikki cover-up.

This sweet sundress is the ideal thing to pop over your swimmers once you emerge from the surf, as it'll offer a little sun protection while making sure you look cute. It appears a little shapeless, but that should make sure it feels comfortable whether you're enjoying a game of beach volleyball or taking it easy in the sun. The braided detail below the bust, adorable pocket accents, and fetching V-neck all help to make this shift a bit more stylish.

If you're looking for real sun-protection in a cover-up though, you may want to keep searching. Billabong has chosen style over substance here, with the V-neck and sleeveless design. You'll need to slap on some lotion, as these bare areas leave us vulnerable to sunburn.

While you'll get most use from the Nikki on the beach, I imagine this cover-up could look just as adorable paired with flip flops as you step away from the shore. It'll never suit a formal affair, but it's perfectly appropriate for trips to the markets and pool parties.

I just wish Billabong offered us more choice here. This punch pink shade is pretty enough, but it might be too sugary for many modern girls. The cover-up is also only offered in medium and large, which is sure to disappoint women at either end of the size spectrum.

But of course, a beach cover-up has a practical job to do. The blend of nylon and Xtra Life lycra offers UV protection from the sun's rays. However it's worth noting that it's much shorter than many cover-ups, and sleeveless to boot, so you'll still need sunscreen to protect your bare skin. If you're a fair-skinned beauty looking for real sun protection, you'll find this cover-up lacking.

If you're simply after something to look cute on the sand though, you won't be disappointed. Speedo's unique fabric is machine washable for easy care. It's also virtually impossible to wrinkle, so you needn't worry about packing it in your beach bag. It'll look fresh and flirty when you're ready to wear it.

Sexy Victoria’s Secret Cover-up Romper | Sporty Beach Playsuit in Black or White

Everywhere a person looks these days there are rompers! Playsuits that come in styles ranging from shorts, skorts, skirts to pants.

Now that look can travel to the sea and sands as well with this Victoria's Secret Cover-up Romper.

This look quite sporty and simplifies the worries about having the right outfit for the beach. This romper comes in either black or white and the material is a spandex cotton.

The only qualms I have with rompers is that not all women have the same top to bottom proportions.

This romper could evade that problem because of the adjustable elastic drawstrings at both the top and waist. This lets you choose where it will fall along your waist-line and bust-line.

As far as being a swim-suit cover-up, most white cotton materials become transparent when they're wet and a romper doesn't have a lot of space to move around in and dry off like a flow-y dress might.

This is also the cheapest romper I've come across at $24. This item would be much more of fashion statement than anything else.

I should also point-out, you do get these cute little side pockets with your romper. They might be able to hold your beach tags or small cell-phone, but this being Victoria's Secret, those shorts are supposed to be tight on the bottom.

Cute and playful, and not just for surfers, board shorts are an oft-overlooked beachwear option. Which is surprising, given all the women who obsess about their butt and thighs in bikinis. Board shorts are a sporty cover up that can go into the water with you.

These Roxy Jammin Out Board Shorts could totally do double duty as regular shorts to cut down on vacation packing. They'd be equally adorable with a solid tee, tank or bikini top in any of the fun colors in the screen print Roxy logo graphic - purple, pink, blue yellow, red, green and more. The bow in matching colors on the front of the short appears to be more for looks than function. I don't think it would provide much size adjustment.

A side pocket is another practical aspect of this long board short. There's certainly no where to put a few bucks or your sunglasses in a bikini. The pocket, the coverage, the versatility - there's a lot of things for Moms to love about board shorts for a family vacation. But, be wary of the juniors' sizing and maybe go up a size.

But, if you're off for a romantic getaway, your guy may be disappointed if you step out onto the beach in a bikini bottom that could double as clothing. For any beach that is considered a sexy destination, I'd leave these at home.
